Donvale High School was a state secondary school, established in 1966 in Springvale Road, Donvale, an eastern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Initially, the school consisted of three portable classrooms at Mitcham High School in Mitcham Road. We've also been fortunate to receive a scaned image from the 1967 school magazine - thanks to another original - Denis Braddy. This page shows two things - firstly, some images of the clearing and constuction of the Donvale site and secondly, just how far school magazines have progressed since 1967! The school logo which is featured at the top of each screen was the creative work of two people - a student Max Heath and the mother of one of the original intake, Michele Johnson. During the twenty-four years that it operated, Donvale High School was hailed as being a progressive high school, undertaking a variety of curriculum and extra-curriculum activities that continually challenged traditional methods of teaching, whilst providing a quality education for those fortunate enough to attend. In 1992, and for reasons best known to the Victorian Government, Donvale High School was merged with one, and later a second, local secondary school to form Mullauna College. Soon afterwards, facilities were upgraded at the original Mitcham High School and the college was relocated away from the old Donvale High School site. Back to the egg ... to coin a phrase from a Paul McCartney album In recent times, the old Donvale High School site has become a special needs school, an educational resource centre and a local sports stadium. Many of the old buildings still stand, providing a monument to what was once a great, great school. For the record, the official address and phone number details of Donvale High School were: Donvale High School And as for the changing landscape in that part of the world, compare the "before", "during" and "after" versions of the Melway street directory across the years (click on the small image to see large version):
